Marco Simoncelli died crash at the Malaysian Moto GP. He lost control of his bike on the second lap of the circuit in Sepang and appeared to be hit by Colin Edwards and then Valentino Rossi as he slid across the track.
Simoncelli, who won the 250cc world championship in 2008, clinching the crown in Sepang, stepped up to MotoGP in 2010. His death was the first fatality in MotoGP since Japan's Daijiro Kato died from his injuries sustained at the 2003 Japanese Grand Prix.
Race organizers said Simoncelli was sent to the medical center at the Sepang circuit for treatment but efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.
"He was already unconscious when the medical team arrived," said MotoGP medical director Michele Macchiagodena. "We attempted to resuscitate him but failed. He died 45 minutes later."

The 2010 Hobey Baker Award winner is to be announced at 6 p.m. on April 9 from Ford Field, the site of the Frozen Four. Hobey Baker Award winner the 30th annual announcement is to air live on ESPNU.
Hobey Baker Award finalists is Blake Geoffrion, Bobby Butler, a senior forward from New Hampshire; and Gustav Nyquist, a sophomore forward from Maine. awarded each year to the top male player in college hockey.
Geoffrion, one of UW's three captains and arguably the team's most valuable player, was the MVP of the West Regional and has 27 goals and 21 assists in 38 games. He is a key member of UW's power-play and penalty-killing units and has a 60% success rate on face-offs.
Butler leads the nation in goals (29) in 39 games. He added 24 assists to total 53 points, tied for the No. 2 mark in the nation.
Nyquist still leads the nation in scoring by a comfortable eight-point margin despite the fact Maine missed the NCAA Tournament. He finished the season with 61 points (19 goals, 42 assists) in 39 games.
