NBCAM is an annual international health campaign organized by major breast cancer charities every October to increase awareness of the disease and to raise funds for research into its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the American Cancer Society, over 200,000 women will be diagnosed with the disease, and over 40,000 will die every year, 99% of them women. Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a time when women are encouraged to undergo mammograms in order to detect any cancerous tissue as early as possible.
